The European Union announced an extension of its sanctions against Turkey for a year, due to its illegal activities in the Mediterranean waters and gas exploration activities in the region.
The European Union adopted a resolution extending the current framework of restrictive measures in response to unauthorized drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean, until 12 November 2021.
In doing so, the European Union will maintain its ability to impose restrictive measures on persons or entities responsible for unauthorized drilling activities for hydrocarbons in the Eastern Mediterranean or for activities in which they are involved.
Sanctions include a travel ban to the European Union and a freeze on the assets of persons and entities, in addition to that, persons and entities in the Union are prohibited from making funds available to those listed on the European sanctions list.
