The French Minister of Armed Forces, Florence Parly, went to Iraq on a visit, which the ministry said forms part of Paris' continued commitment to the war on terror and its support for Iraqi sovereignty. Both sides stressed that the Turkish state's attacks on the Kurdistan Region must be stopped and Iraq's sovereignty must be protected.
The ministry added in a statement that the Minister of the Armed Forces is adhering to the fact that ISIS still poses a serious threat, and that they must continue to confront it, noting the intensification of French air strikes on the organization’s pockets over the past months.
Ministry officials said Paris is concerned about the resurgence of the organization, which is taking advantage of political uncertainty in Iraq and rivalry between Iran and the United States in the region.
Parly is expected to discuss with KRG officials the issue of the Turkish occupation and its attacks on Kurdistan region.
