The eastern Mediterranean is a joint ownership and it cannot be accepted that it will turn into a playground for the aspirations of some. With these warning words, French Minister of Armies, Florence Parly, commented on the Turkish regime's interference and its expansion plans in the eastern Mediterranean.
Parly said that the eastern Mediterranean is becoming an arena of tension, noting that respect for international law should be the rule, not the exception, and that the priority should be dialogue, cooperation and diplomacy, in reference to the intransigence and threats of the Turkish regime in the region.
European official: Borrell will present options for broad sanctions against Ankara
For his part, an EU official said that the foreign minister in the bloc, Josep Borrell, will present, during the upcoming European Union meeting in Berlin, a set of options through which to impose broad sanctions on the Turkish regime, according to the network specialized in European Union policies.
The official stressed that Brussels had previously reduced the accession aid allocated to Turkey, pointing out that one of the member states demanded the withdrawal of its membership file in the European Union from circulation, and that the meeting would discuss imposing sanctions on Turkish personalities and legal entities.
The media network specialized in European Union policies indicated that a final decision is not expected in Berlin, indicating that the visit of German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas to Athens and Ankara on Tuesday did not yield any tangible results.
Borrell is expected to present, during the next meeting of the European Union in Berlin on the 27th and 28th of this August, a set of options for dealing with the Turkish regime, due to its provocations in the eastern Mediterranean and its interference in Libya and Syria, in addition to the blackmail it is practicing regarding the immigration file.
