A court of the Turkish regime issued a two-year and nine-month prison sentence in absentia to a German journalist of Turkish origin, Deniz Yücel, in a case that was a reason for past tensions between Ankara and Berlin.
The Turkish regime has accused Yücel, who is based in Germany, of promoting the clerical group Fatah Allah Gülen, the PKK, and inciting hatred.
The arrest of YÜcel nearly three years ago led to strained relations between Turkey and Germany, members of NATO, as Berlin, after a period of his detention, prevented Turkish ministers from speaking at electoral conferences for the Turkish community on its soil.
It is reported that German journalist Deniz Yücel returned to Berlin in February 2018, after his release after spending a year in prison.
